The MVP Scholarship empowers Mount Vernon Park students to dream bigger and achieve more. We’re here to help you reach your college and career dreams with financial aid, mentorship, and a network of people who believe in you. Along the way, you will gain skills, make connections, and have the chance to give back to the community that shaped you.

Eligible students can receive up to $5,000 per year (a total of $20,000 over four years) to cover the cost of attendance after all other grants and scholarships are applied.

Funding can be used for:

Certificate programs

Associate degrees

Bachelor’s degrees

Scholarship funds may cover tuition, fees, books, room and board, transportation, and other approved educational expenses.

Eligibility Requirements

  • To apply for the MVP Scholarship, students must:

    1. Live in the Mount Vernon Park neighborhood for at least one year prior to high school graduation.

    2. Submit an interest form/application starting as early as 9th grade.

    3. Be a permanent resident, undocumented student, or DACA recipient.

    4. Be accepted to an accredited, nonprofit college, university, or approved post-secondary program.

    5. Apply for other aid and scholarships, including 21st Century Scholars (and maintain eligibility in ScholarTrack).

    6. Complete career exploration activities to help guide college and major choices.

    7. Complete 50 hours of volunteer service in the community (parent volunteers encouraged).

    8. Submit a short essay explaining how you plan to give back to the community after graduation.

Ongoing Scholarship Requirements

To continue receiving funding each semester, students must:

  • Make steady progress toward a certificate or degree.

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 (or meet requirements for certification progress).

  • Be enrolled full-time (typically 12 credit hours or as defined by apprenticeship/trades program).

  • Actively participate in the Scholarship Cohort, including peer mentoring for future MVP Scholars.

  • Stay in regular communication with MVP Scholarship staff during each semester.

  • Complete Questa Education Foundation compliance checks at the end of each semester.

College and University Options

MVP Scholars can attend:

  • Any public college or university in the U.S. (with priority on local institutions)

  • Any accredited, nonprofit private university willing to match public school scholarship costs

  • In special cases, consideration may be given for academically strong students to attend higher-cost, competitive schools
